Conversations Part III: Preparing to Move

"So, are you all packed?"

"Nope, but I have my packing clothes all laid out."

"What do you mean, packing clothes?"

"You know, the outfit I am going to wear tomorrow to pack and move. It's my Harley thermal and cords, which I thought was totally fitting."

"Umm...."

Simple Things

Dear Men,
I think that you should start considering wearing more sweater vests underneath your suit jackets and blazers (see above). Not only does it bring back memories of Jake Ryan from The Breakfast Club, but it also looks very smart.
The girls will love it... trust!

So Pretty You Want to Eat It

Birthday dresses should be like cupcakes. Pink, frilly and decorated with oodles of delicious details.

I am wearing jeans, a red tank top with a white shirt over it and my glasses. I am a little more In & Out Burger than cupcake this year. It happens...

It's Official

Even Peter Pan had to leave NeverNeverLand eventually. And despite my best efforts, there will be no summer in Tuscany, no weekends on the Italian beaches and no playing captain in Capri.Come April I am officially moving back to DC! And I am bringing some serious style with me!!

Project Not-So-Subtle

Tres Semme, L'Oreal Paris, Levis, Bluefly, oh my! I love Project Runway. I love how not subtle they are with their product placement even more.

Carry on...

Let's Ride

It is impossible for me to watch the show Rob and Big without laughing out loud. I don't know what it is, but I have this odd love/fascination for skateboarders and skateboarding and their humor. Maybe it all goes back to being a kid and sliding down my neighbor's halfpipe in my mom's pillowcases. I was so cool beyond my years!

The Only Mention I Will Make

I was told that this year is my champagne birthday since I am turning 29 on the 29th.
So here is my question... come Tuesday will there really be champagne, or will it be like my 16th birthday when you are supposed to get a car and all I got was a slightly later curfew and a hangover from too much Boone's Farm?

When You Just Feel Old

NicNic: I can't wait to go to bed early tonight.
Me: mmmm....
NicNic: What are you talking about, you go to bed early every night.
Me: I know. But I did stay up 'til 11pm the other night.
NicNic: Ha! You act like you haven't been to bed early in ages.
Me: I miss my bed during the day. And my sleep clothes are way less binding than my going out clothes.

Time is Tricky. Dating Isn't Much Better

I used to date someone where I would say that my favorite part of the day was the 5 minutes right before we would fall asleep. I can't tell you how many times I wanted those 5 minutes to last 5 hours.

I have also dated (sort of) someone who I only wanted to see between the hours of 10pm and 8am. And not for the great conversation. But those situations are always awkward and strained. And you never end up feeling that great.

The good thing that comes out of them is that you start to appreciate the ease of dating a person when it all just clicks and is comfortable even more. If life were a card game, I would trade my 8 hours for those 5 minutes any day.

bonne nuit!

Magic In Those Lights

I love Florence at night. Lately I have been walking places instead of riding my bike just so I can see more. This picture doesn't do it justice, but the city is magical after dark.I also tried to capture it in black and white, but was even less successful

Wanna Know How I Know You're American?

Let's start at the top and work our way down, shall we?

1. nobody in their early 20's rocks a Burberry headband and bag unless they are Asian or rich girls from NYC. Fact.
2. Northface jackets are warm. I will give you that. But considering Italians won't even go running unless their sweats are Armani, do you really think they would sport a Northface windbreaker?
3. I never got the whole 'let's wear our pajamas to class' thing when I was in college. I still don't get it. Do you really want me to believe that you didn't have two seconds to throw on proper pants, but you had 5-7 minutes to get your extra hot, grande, skim, no foam, sugar-free vanilla latte from Starbucks? Now granted, aside from that cheap beer you will be drinking later, this is the only food item that will go in your mouth all day. But still, put on some pants.
4. Uggs. I love me some Uggs, don't get me wrong. They are like a warm hug around your foot. And you probably could pull them off, but when paired with all of the mentioned above it is just a recipe for disaster.

kisses!

New Years' Best Look

This is the best look I have seen so far in 2008. The bright silky shirt says saucy. The dirty martini says distinguished. And the large sunglasses scream P.I.M.P.
Next time I have a party I want this picture to be on the invitation!

The Perfect Inappropriate Card

The website SomeeCards is my new favorite addiction. Inappropriate and totally hilarious... what is not to love!

Time to Organize

I always travel with a huge purse. And the bigger the bag, the bigger the mess. Which is why I have decided that I want to find a travel organizer, like the one that Cameron Diaz has in The Holiday, that carries your boarding pass, passport, itinerary, and money.

But where do I look? Red Envelope? Brookstone?
Maybe I should just call Cam up and ask her where she got hers.

Karma's a Bitch, I Am Not

Take a listen.

Back to Work

For the first time in months I am actually trapped in front of my computer working like normal people do. Unfortunately, my brain is other places right now. So, as my gift to you, here is a playlist to get us all through the day.
Warning: some songs may make you want to curl up under your desk and cry.

1. Open Your Arms - The Editors
2. I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones
3. What Goes Around (Comes Around) - Justin Timberlake
4. Love is Colder Than Death - The Virgins
5. Tangerine - Led Zepplin
6. So Glad to See You - Hot Chip
7. So Many Cakes - French Kicks
8. Everybody Knows - Concrete Blonde
9. f.o.g - LSB
10. Nothing Better - Postal Service
11. Silver Screen Shower Scene - Felix da Housecat

Wanted: Deep, Blue and Moody

I am on the hunt for the perfect deep blue, almost black, nail polish to match my new purse.

Requirements: looking for that perfect match that can be blue without being too dramatic, but still be deep and ever so slightly moody. Oh, and please don't flake out on me or chip.

Taking applications now...

The Best Cure for a Hangover

After not being able to peel my body out of bed until noon, I dragged myself to meet up with a friend as she looked at a new apartment. Bleary-eyed and mascara-smudged from the night before, we popped into Furla on a whim to see what their sales were like. I saw. I loved. I resisted.

One hour later, one more trip to the store and a great deal of rationalizing that it was my birthday in two weeks, I walked out with the purse nestled in its carrying case. Where it will stay until the morning of my birthday, when I wake up, unwrap it and pretend to act all surprised!

Make a Wish, Eat Some Cake

It hasn't stopped raining yet, so I decided to make my birthday wish list... you know, like any average seven year old girl does.
First, I want a puppy just like this one
but since that is not happening, my list also includes:
a soft cotton bottom sheet for my new big bed
a big leather bag in a fun shade of blue
a silver chain
and some chocolate cake

kisses,
me

Foggy Day in Florence

Color on a Grey Day

It's been raining here for two days, which is fine once you realize that cafes and wine are far more cozy than the sales and crowds. While most Italian women still dress to the nines, even in downpours, these bright red rainboots covered in yellow ducks caught my eye.
The verdict: rubber ducky you're the one...

Sweet Greens to the Rescue

It's Wednesday, which means you are suffering some serious post-holiday, back-to-work, just-not-into-it feelings right about now. I have the cure. Head to Sweet Greens on the corner of 33rd and M St. in Georgetown. Their frozen yogurt is actually real yogurt. Buy two... one for now and one for right after you finish that first one.
Trust me, I'm a doctor!

Who Looks This Good...

Gwen Stefani is stunning and her son is even more adorable than Biff when he cuddles. Any other female would look like a two cent tramp with bleached hair and lipstick that red. I know... I tried.

Ring Around the Rosey

My last night in DC and I was hopping from place to place trying to squeeze in as much as possible. Already exhausted, entirely too sober and dizzy from all the people, I walked into party #2. Three of my favorite people were already there. Each wearing a different item from my suitcase. Each looking better in it then I do. I smiled, grabbed a vodka concoction and started snapping away. Here are some of my favs...

Feel Free to Edit Me

Six hours into my nine hour plane ride, I decided that The Editors were my new favorite band of the moment. Which, let's be honest, is a decision I should have made after seeing them play live two years ago. The only decision left now is which one to have a shameless crush on...

Greetings from Munich

So far I have hit up the organic juice bar, the coffee stand and I am debating whether or not I could possibly spend 5 hours in the Munich airport without having some sort of German pretzel or meat product.

I wish I had my camera because the men here know how to dress and the ladies are rocking some serious suede boots. Even the kids are cute. (ok, one of them just sneezed on me. minus 100 cute points, kid) Either way I am heading back to Florence feeling resettled and reminded of bloody amazing the people closest to me are.

wiener schnitzel covered kisses,
me

This Just In

Strawberries are going to be huge in '08... as witnessed by a certain pair of Walmart slippers that were a fashion staple in OBX.

Captains are also making a comeback as well... as evidenced in this picture. Though, whether I am referring to the man or the mug - well, I just won't tell.
Oh yeah , and I am blogging again.

Here, There and Everywhere

Just got back from a day trip to NYC. And you know what...DC is still my favorite place.
(though NYC has it when it comes to style. Except for those weird Russian fur hats everyone is wearing there. Warm, yes. Cute, maybe.)

Getting to the Root of the Matter

I just read that the LA Times had a story about blondes with roots. According to the writer, brown roots with blonde hair is "the latest way to feign indifference to your appearance." I mean, if Ashley Olson can pull it off, so can we, right? I am not sure if I am ready to cancel my hair appt. on Friday, but regardless it is a fun article to read.

Ideation!

Make a new cult every day to suit your affairs
Kissing girls in english, at the back of the stairs
You're a honey, with a following of innocent boys
They never know it
Because you never show it
You always get your way

2008 Is Great

New Year's Resolutions:
1. learn to knit
2. learn to trust myself
3. get a dog

For some reason this New Year just feels different... like something I have been waiting for is about to happen. I like it!
