Today marks one month since I have been in Florence. Which seems crazy too me, considering it feels like I just left and have been living here forever both at the same time.
Before I know it, I will be in DC, grilling on the roof of Post Mass, making fun of people in Italian with Claudia, and in some ways picking up where I left off.
But for now, I have a lot of living to do here in Italy. Someone once told me to make sure to be in the moment while I am here, because it will be over sooner than I think. Pretty good advice, eh? Even better since I actually started listening to it.
But consider yourselves warned... I do eventually plan on returning when my little adventure is over. And I've got big plans in mind!
kisses!

I Feel Icky
Return of the Dress
Last night I finally got to wear my favorite dress. I love it because it every time I wear it I have the best night and always wake up with a smile on my face.
Which is so much better than my evil black dress, which I always have too much fun in and wake up with a horrible hangover and a broken shoe heel.

Who You Calling a Bimbo?
Today was Pitti Bimbo, the children's clothing fair. Which was way more fun than last week's men's fair.
I scored some sugary treats in the Hello Kitty tent.
And managed to snag a wristband for the ladies at Hotel California
I even managed to get a cute little rhinestone tee for Momushka (I don't know... you can wear it to the gym or something!)
Ooh and lots and lots of bags, which made me feel like I went shopping without actually having to spend any money.
Seriously though, it isn't all fun and games. School can be really, really hard too...

Sometimes Being Lost is a Good Thing
In need of some Meg time, I left school a little early today, turned on my ipod, got totally distracted, and ended up taking a different street home. Where I stumbled upon a mercato in one of the squares. Where I suddenly got really excited that I will get to show these things to people when they come and visit. And embarrasingly enough, I got excited about the idea of Christmas shopping too.
But for now I have the apartment to myself, which is rare. So I am off to curl up on my bed and watch Coyote Ugly for the 102nd time.

People Crush #6
Meet: Nikki, California beach babeNikki is like our little free-spirited sister who just makes you laugh by doing nothing at all. Well, if you consider busting out the electric slide in the middle of a bar, quoting jokes from Adam Sandler movies and promising to wear a gold thong and water wings on the beach in Ibiza nothing at all. Oh yeah, she can surf too, which makes us both incredibly jealous and in awe of her all at the same time.

Goodnight Stars, Goodnight Moon
It's, like, totally Fetch!
I've decided to be a "Cool Hunter", which means I will:
1. travel around Florence looking for air conditioned restaurants
2. travel the globe looking for the hottest street trends at any given moment
3. try to be like the cool kids by copying their clothes
*bonus points for designing the slogan that would go on my business card*

This is one of the few times I will ever post a story...
but this is just too good!
On Saturday I went to the beach in some small Italian town with 6 friends. We decided that we wanted to get seafood for dinner on the way back. So we hop on the train one town over, check the times and go to dinner. Miss one train and see one for 10:34. Kill time, come back. Wait, and wait, and wait. By this time we are all tired, dirty, sunburned and ready to just get back. Not to mention slowly coming off of our nice wine buzz. No train. So we ask. No train till morning. No bus. No taxi. There are 7 of us. 2 of the girls are not happy and insist upon walking to the next town to try to get a bus. Myself and two others are like eff it, let;s just find a hotel. Not a huge deal, what can you do?
So after running around looking for a bus we all break off and three of us try to find a hotel. It is almost midnight. Nothing has space. NOTHING! We keep walking, stopping, no luck. So at this point we are like hmm, maybe someone in a restaurant knows somewhere we can go. So we stop by a place where this old lady was closing up and in a very broken Italian/English conversation try to explain our situation. She says something about an apartment, cluttered, bed. So we aren't sure if she is taking us to her own place or somewhere else. But at this point, it really didn't matter.
We end up at this apt. she rents out, she made up our beds, gave us towels and left. Came back this morning at 9am, took us to her restaurant, made us a coffee and we got on a train.
Oh and the other 4 spent the night sleeping in a hotel lobby. Don't you love the way guardian angels pull through sometimes!

ScusiMocha Learns Geography
Scene: beach in Italy. ScusiM and 5 friends, including two who are from Taiwan (affectionately called The Twins).
Me: So you had to go and buy new bathing suits for today? They are really cute!
Twins: Thanks, yes, we didn't bring any.
Me: Are there even any beaches in Taiwan?
Twins (looking confused): Taiwan is an island, so basically everything is a beach.
Me: Oh, good to know.

It's Getting Hot Up In Here
I mean, real hot. So hot that I have just given in to the fact that I will be gross for the next two months. And tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day thusfar... which is so perfect because tomorrow is also Pitti Uomo, Italy's largest trade show where 600 fashion houses showcase 800 collections. All under one tent. With no air conditioning. Like I said, it's going to be hot... and in more ways than one!

The Beat Goes On and On and On and On
Today I had a double-hiccup cry. The type where each time you breathe in you take two breathes because you are not sure when your tears will allow you to inhale again.
I remember feeling like this once before. I was 16 or 17. He was one of my best friends and we tried dating, despite the fact that inside I knew that I only wanted to be friends. I was scared of losing him. Despite my best effort, I still did and on the phone he explained to me that it hurt him too much to be friends with me anymore. I remember hanging up the phone and while my head understood it, I literally felt my heart break for the first time.
So today I let it out, double-hiccup cry and all. Then I got up, took a shower and met up with friends for dinner.
Today, right now, at this moment...

Hi, this is Meg. I am taking the weekend off from my computer. Which means that I either am scared of throwing it out the window or have plans to go to the beach. Either way, I will be back Sunday night just in time to email my homework to my professor.
kisses.

I am a geek and love school! All of my professors are either fashion designers, former designers or have worked for major designers. Yesterday when our director walked in he declared in the most nonchalant manner possible, "Sorry, I just left a meeting with Ferragamo to come talk to you."
And don't even get me started on the library that houses magazines from any country you can think of and every Italian Vogue from 1970 on!
