Halloweennnnnn!

The costume:
Alvin and the Chipmunks

The trick: a maze of spider webs when you walk through the door

The treat: blood orange juice, Campari and vodka - with doll limbs sticking out

The verdict: not sure which is more scary... the holiday or our sense of humor

Why looking up the lyrics can be a good idea

"La Cucaracha, la cucaracha, ya no puede caminar. Porque le falte y necessite marijuana a fumar."

The story is that this song was written about Pancho Villa's car. It means "The cockaroach, the cockaroach, can go no further. Because it's lacking and it needs marijuana to smoke."

... and now you know.

Spin, Spin Sugar

Every year at at Halloween time I go to CVS, buy a bag of candy corn and end up eating the entire thing in the span of an afternoon. Which instantly sends me into a sugary-wax induced coma that doesn't end for 356 days, when I go and do it all over again.

Italy doesn't have candy corn... I checked. So instead I am od'ing on homemade squash soup. It's delicious, but the effect just isn't the same.

When Fashion Unites

The reason we are laughing so hard at last night's fashion soiree was because:

a. I tripped a Ferragamo by accident
b. Nicki's glass of wine was bigger than half of the waists there
c. two designers got in a catfight over the last salmon puff
d. too much wine and not enough snacks made us delightfully delirious

Love a Good Fight Club

crowls: Piece of advice: you might not want to advertise that you watch gossip girl.
me: i live in italy. selection is limited
crowls:
it's like how in middle school you didn't want people to know you were actually friends with the loser in your math class.
oh, i watch it. and i love it.
but it's very fight club.
me: fight club.
word.

Once a Blonde, Always a Blonde

That's it... it's official. I am going back to my true roots (or hair color) in a few weeks. No doubt momushka is reading this and crying out of pure joy.

It's Getting to Be That Time of Year

The chill in the air can only mean one thing... my Christmas shopping has begun. And since I won't be home for Thanksgiving, that greatly reduces the chance of me getting tipsy and telling everyone with a giggle what I bought them. Maybe...

Icicles in the Shower: Chapter 1

With an apartment so cold my nose was turning to ice, I had to flee to the nearest cafe to finish working on a school project. 25 minutes and 2 lattes later and my feet still haven't defrosted.

In high school, my best friend's parents used to hang sleeping bags over the windows during the winter to keep the warmth in. I am so not above doing that. We could call it Strawberry Shortcake Chic.

Panic! In The City

Seeing as my winter clothes are still being held hostage in a basement in the Midwest and mywallet is still hyperventilating from the recent purchase of new boots, I am none too thrilled with the sudden cold spell that has taken over. Cold means jackets. And jackets are one of the few things not living in my closest right now.

Do I wait until I am reunited with my long lost wardrobe in December? Or do I close my eyes, hand over my credit card and wrap myself in the luxury of warmness?

Like a Lover Scorned

Fashion school has ruined shopping for me. Not to the point I didn't buy those new boots, but the feeling just wasn't the same.

When Friends Cook for You

Yesterday I came home from writing to a late lunch of miso salmon, horseradish mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Tonight I was treated to a dinner of homemade curry and samosas (did I spell that right?).

I guess the real question is, why on earth would I ever jeapordize my dishwashing skills by learning to cook when I have such wonderful friends that cook for me?

Thinking of Stopping the Blogging

So I am thinking of not having this blog anymore. Just not feeling it so much these days. Plus with my new side gig writing for moflo.it, I have my creative outlet filled.

I dunno, I may change my mind... I am prone to do that from time to time.

Lychees, Tahini and Sweet Chili Sauce, Oh My!

There is nothing like stumbling upon an international market on the way home and spending entirely too much on nothing but condiments from every country imaginable only to come home to an empty fridge with nothing to put them on.
mmm... mango chutney on cucumber?

October Means Olive Picking In Italy

I was sold at "you get to climb trees". Unfortunately I did a whole lot more sleeping on the couch than picking of olives. But that didn't stop everyone else...After hours of picking, this is what they harvested (they had 10x more last year!)
Lucky for me, I woke up just in time to put out the chairs and watch the sunset.
Ridiculous beauty, right?

It's cold and I have a cold

Can someone please tell me why what is a little cold to everybody else is a full blown, have a fever, sleep 18 hours a day, cough and sneeze for me?

But since I am feeling better today I am going to go buy myself something warm to wear. Preferably in the cashmere variety...

Our Little Family is Growin

Nicki got a crab for her birthday that she appropriately named Slash. So now it is me, Nic, Steven Tyler the fish, Powder the albino frog, and Slash all in one apartment.
Oh, and our little Filipino house cleaner Renaulto.

The Trend that NEEDS to Die

This is seriously so not okWhy, why, why do people think the turban is ok to wear? If beyonce wasn't already busted before, she is now. Time to fire your moms and get a real stylist.
