And It All Clicks

Anyone that has known me for 5 minutes can tell you that I am an extremely emotional person. I run on feelings, not always logic. What can I say, I am an Aquarius! Sometimes this can be a good thing, sometimes not-so-good. I can take things too personally. I forget that other people have things going on too. For example, if I call you and you don't call me back... I assume it is on purpose. If I send an email and don't get a response... I am being blown off. Like I said, not always the most logical. And let's me honest, a little narcissistic!

So I have been working on it. Making sure that place between my emotional and my logical side connect. And you know what? I think they have. I get it. Other people have things going on in their lives outside of the "world of me". We all have our bad days, our good days, our busy days, and just sh*t we need to figure out.

This is a good place to be. And way less exhausting!

Always Dress the Part

This morning I biked to work... and by work I mean babysitting the most adorable little British boy on earth... and couldn't stop myself from giggling the entire time at how fun it was to be riding around the city.
After stopping at the center market for some flowers to take to a Korean bbq later today, I biked back home, bopping my head to my ipod and weaving around tourists. I may have been slightly bell happy too.

Seriously, with a life like this maybe I am not in such a rush to get back to the real world!

(and you know that I totally dressed the part too in my little cuffed jeans, flowey top and big sunglasses!)

Heard in the Classroom

Scene: yesterday during the 2nd hour of a 3 hour communications class.

Italian professor: What is the most hillbilly town in the U.S.? *pause* OHIO!

me (looking up from my bag of gummy bears): Wait! I'M from Ohio!!!!

Hasn't anyone ever heard of Missouri or Mississippi?

I've Got Wheels

The ocean may have eaten my Gucci's, but nothing is going to come between me and my bike. Well, nothing except the small fact that I haven't ridden a bike in about 10 years and actually walked it home from the store today because I was scared to ride on the busy street.
Eh... details, details. At least she has a basket!

Home for the holidays

I have serious issues when to comes to buying plane tickets. I can never commit to a date or an airline or a time. After 5 hours and one migraine, I was finally able to find a plane ticket back to the States for Christmas.

I arrive in DC on Dec. 7 and return to Florence on Jan. 4. I know... a long time, right? Gotta love the girls at Hotel California for letting me stay with them.

Now I just need to find a ticket to Cleveland for Christmas...

8 Things

A while ago PGlow forwarded me a chain blog where you list 8 things about yourself and then tag 8 people to do the same. I am pretty sure all 7 of you that read this already know most of these things, but here I go anyway...

  • I started reading when I was 3, which completely freaked my mom out. Oh, I also used to talk in a foreign language every night at 11:30 in my sleep, which freaked her out even more.
  • Debbie Gibson was my first concert. Holy F*ck was my last.
  • I love eating left over salad after the lettuce gets soggy from the dressing.
  • I still sleep with my baby blanket.
  • I have been pierced 11 times.
  • I pretend to be asleep when I don't feel like talking to people.
  • The only reason people call me Meg is because three years ago that is how Merker introduced me to Claud and it stuck.
  • I was the first female altar girl at my church (I know, riight!).

Now it is back to school...

Street Stalker: the "I want a puppy" edition

Spotted: across the street from my houseI am determined to find out what kind of dog this is. And once I do, find out how to get one. This is not a joke.

Update: The Trend that Refuses to Disappear

What is wrong with this picture? Ok, several things... but specifically the fashion turban! It still won't go away. And now that F21 is selling them, it is only a matter of time until 15 year old girls everywhere start sporting them. So, so not ok...

Prelude to the Weekend

This is what I know...

My favorite person on earth is making her first trip to NYC, where she is sure to shop it up in Soho and drink it up in the Village and eat it up everywhere else.

I, on the otherhand, am making my way to Cinque Terre tomorrow, for a little last minute getaway amongst beauty and sea.

And you? Well I have no idea what you are doing, but no doubt it will be fabulous. Just remember these two things:
if you are a guy, never bark at a girl on the street. It just isn't cute.
and if you are a girl, leggings may be trendy, but that doesn't mean they always look good.

Oh, and as always, miss me lots!

Chipped is the New Solid

I predict that chipped nail polish is going to be a big trend this fall.

Which means that either I know something that you don't know, or that I am just too lazy to take the rest of my nail polish off.

Pane and Puppies

There are certain things that I just don't like...
tourists crowding the sidewalks.
waiters that don't want to wait on you.
people who don't return emails.
leggings under jean skirts.

And there are certain things that I do like...
coffee in the morning.
people who can rock short hair
those one piece bathing suits with the cut-outs that I could never wear
and dogs who nap with loaves of bread!
seriously, if I could have fit him in the car I would have taken him home with me...

When It Rains, It Pours (wine)

What do you do when it is rainy and cold in Florence?

First you rent a car
then you drive out past Sienna to the country
and taste some delicious wines
don't forget to "borrow" some grapes from the vineyard
and when the sun comes out, the roof opens and hands go up
and if you get sleepy, close your eyes for a bit
just make sure to hide your camera so your friends can't hijack it while you are asleep!

Do You See What I See?

Go Bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S

I totally forgot about this picture that we took in Sorrento. This boy was leaning on his Vespa, as though he was just waiting for someone to come by and snap his picture. Afterward, we all not-so-secretly wished we could be 16 again... just for a hot second. And his super-stylie D&G banana belt, that was just icing on the cake.

You are Such a Contradiction

Today I peeled myself off of the couch and went to the American bookstore to pick up a new book. Bookstores are one of my favorite places to get lost. There is something soothing about being surrounded by all of those words.

The silly thing is that I never hold on to books once I have read them. They remind me of clutter, which is a strict violation of my 'one-in-one-out" policy.

Young Folks

and we don't care about the young folks

In the meantime, if anyone knows how Limewire works can you please email me. As of right now, we are not getting along and I an dying to watch some entourage.

Heard on the Street

Italian waiter: would you like table?

2 Australian tourists: umm, no thanks.

Italian waiter: are you sure? we have a table right here.

male Australian tourist: well, do you have tortellini? that is what she wants.

Italian waiter (looking confused): what is this?

male Australian tourist: you know, tortellini... it is a pasta filled with meat.

Don't you love when non-Italians try to educate Italians on their food!

Now You See Them, Now You Don't

The ocean ate my Gucci's. And on my first day in Ibiza too! I knew it was a love affair that wouldn't last.

It's ok, I found new sunglasses, but note to self... no more playing in the water with anything on your head that costs more than $20.

I Want the Skinny One

While we were walking around the Roman ruins, a man stopped us and explained in Italian that he was an artist working on a collection and would like to cut Yael's profile out of paper.
How exactly did he say it?

"I want to use the skinny one."

I am pretty sure Chris, Claud and I had a snack while we watched.

Are there flakes of gold in there?

Dear cosmetic gods of Europe,
Question... how can you charge 11 euros for Rimmel mascara when I can get it at Wal-Mart for $2.99. And just as a little suggestion, you may want to consider replacing Kate Moss as the Rimmel spokeswoman. Girl is looking a little worn these days.
Coincidentaly enough, I am available should you want a "fresher" face. Let's talk.

kisses,
meg

Grab Your Coat and Don't Ask Why

Still here. Just being lazy, spending my time wandering Florence's big center market (which I never have time to do), napping and cleaning before I leave for Ibiza. I forgot how nice it was to have an apt. to yourself!

Wish I had more, but that's it.

miss me,
meg

Just Call Me Capitan

Best part of vacation hands down was renting a boat to drive around the Isle of Capri.

Take 4 girls with little boat driving experience, put them in one vessel appropriately name "Little Shulman", set them loose on the sea, and what happens?

They elect the girl who hasn't driven in almost three months as captain. It was great!!

Welcome to Paradise

enough said.

Here, do you want to... borrow my sweater?

I am currently in the middle of a pretty serious "My So-Called Life" marathon. It's taking me back to the days of high school insecurities and when flannel shirts were an actual fashion statements.

But here is my question... if every girl can somehow relate to Angela Chase, then does that mean that every guy has an inner Jordan Catellano?

Calling all Belts

I am working on a trend report for school and need lots and lots of pictures belts. Large belts, small belts, fat belts, skinny belts.

If anyone see an outfit (men or women) with a hot belt, snap a pic and send it to me, puh-lease.

I promise lots of hugs as thanks!

Crashing Back to Reality

Back home in Florence. Lots of stories and tons of pics. Will share tomorrow. Tonight I am sleepy mcsleeperson

Arrived in Florence to a huge thunderstorm and an apt. that was semi-flooded with water and without power. Oh and several police officers knocking on my door about smoke on my roof.

No worries, power is back on, rain has stopped and I am ready for bed.

sleep tight and if you want to see pictures check out my flickr account...

kisses,
me

Let's Make This Quick

The girls got here yesterday afternoon. Chris called from a pay phone in front of my apartment when I was a block away and I immediately took off into a sprint toward home. I am pretty sure that my skirt ended up somewhere around my neck as I ran, but it was worth it! After letting them rest for a hot second I immediately took them (along with some beer and wine) up to the top of the Piazza Michelangelo to watch the sun set over Florence. Then we went to dinner outside, laughed tons and drank too much wine.

This morning was my last class for the summer. I am a free woman until September. Seriously, what do people do with so much free time? Oh yeah, my old roommate moved out and my new roommate moved in. Nothing but smiles. That is all I am saying about that.

Tomorrow we are off to Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast until Tuesday and then to Rome for a night. The girls head back to the States on Wednesday, unless I can devise a plan to keep them here. I am pretty crafty, so there is a good chance I will come up with something. I know I can bribe Chris with the shoulder game and gelato, but Yael and Claudia may not be as easy.
Then I am home in Florence for a few days and then head off to Ibiza were I get to see more friends (yea!) for another mini-vaca.

Ok, lots of pictures after I get back from Amalfi.... promise... but for there is a fat Italian in my kitchen fixing my washer, an empty suitcase on my floor and my three best friends are here and I don't want to miss a second with them. Having them here makes Florence feel like home and I already get teary when I think of them leaving... yeah good thing I am so not a crier!

Hugs and kisses!
